City government meetings are streamed via the City's YouTube channel and on local television channel 20. Get the full broadcast schedule at slocity.org/watch.

Get Public Records

Nearly all City documents are public records, meaning you can request to see them at any time. You can also find most reports, studies and City financial information on our website.  Commonly searched records include City Council meeting agenda packets and minutes, campaign disclosure statements, City-recorded deeds and easements, and more!

Provide Input & Share Ideas

Can't attend a City meeting or volunteer? That's okay! Stay engaged by providing input online via Open City Hall. This is the online equivalent to an in-person community or stakeholder meeting. We provide the same information as we do in those meetings and you can provide feedback within a certain time period at your leisure. Staff consider and address public input via Open City Hall making recommendations to the City Council.

Volunteer with the City

Looking to contribute your time and skills in a well-matched, meaningful volunteer role? The City of San Luis Obispo's Volunteer Program is committed to boosting community engagement  by offering hands-on ways to get involved in City projects and goal progression. The City of San Luis Obispo offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for youth and adults, individuals and groups, students, retirees, professionals, and more – all are welcome and encouraged to engage.

Join an Advisory Body 

Residents are the underpinning of our community and your Mayor and City Council encourage your participation on one of the City's 17 City Advisory Bodies.

The City's Advisory Bodies are made up of groups of volunteers that advise staff and the City Council on matters that affect policy and issues that will affect the future of the community.

You may browse all advisory body agendas, minutes, and other important documents or you can learn more about the City's Advisory Bodies, including accessing meeting agendas and minutes.

Run for City Council

Probably the most significant way to become involved in City government is to run for City Council. As a reminder, our Mayor position is a two-year term and Council are four years, but are staggered so every election there will be the Mayor and two Council seats up for grabs. The requirements are that you must be a resident for 30 days prior to the election and be a registered voter in the City of San Luis Obispo.
