This means that property managers, landlords, and HOA's play a vital role in helping residents comply with state recycling laws and keeping our community clean.
Under SB 1383, multifamily residential complexes are required to provide tenants with information about organic waste recovery and proper sorting practices. Property owners and managers must provide this information annually and to new tenants before or within 14 days of move-in.
Residents are required to separate household food waste and place it in the green organics cart provided by the complex. If your property does not have a green cart in each enclosure, or if you need to adjust your waste services, please call San Luis Garbage at 805-543-0875.
To make compliance easier, the City of San Luis Obispo’s Solid Waste and Recycling Program, in partnership with the SLO County Integrated Waste Management Authority (IWMA), has developed a Landlord/Property Manager/HOA Toolkit. This resource provides ready-to-use materials and guidance to share with tenants, ensuring that everyone has the tools they need to sort waste properly and keep properties clean and litter free.
If you would like to join our Landlord/Property Manager/HOA email list to receive a biannual newsletter sent before Community Clean Up Weeks, please contact us at RecycleRight@slocity.org.
