Each year the City organizes two separate “Clean-up Week” efforts in which the City and San Luis Garbage Company come together to offer large item pick up opportunities at a reduced price to residents. Spring/Summer clean-up week is scheduled to coincide with Cal Poly move out in order to maximize our efforts to keep sidewalks, streets, and storm drains clear of unwanted debris as students moved out of the City. At the conclusion of clean-up week in 2017, 124 tons of material had been collected from the community. This is enough material to fill about 25 garbage trucks. While many of these items are recycled, many are also sent to the landfill even though they have lots of usable life left.  encourage everyone to plan for scheduled donations of furniture, clothing, electronics, canned foods and other material to local organizations such as the Goodwill, American Red Cross, and Salvation Army.

For information on local organizations that actively accept donations please see below.
