Parks and Recreation sports programs provide fundamental athletic instruction in a non-competitive environment that focuses on participation. 

Youth Basketball
The Parks and Recreation Department and the SLO County YMCA have teamed up to offer basketball for  boys and girls ages 5-12. Children will pick-up basic basketball skills while participating in a positive and fun atmosphere. Leagues are open for. Games begin the first weekend in January.

    • Practices start January 7th, 2019. Practices are determined by coaches. One practice a week; Monday-Friday.
    • Games start January 19th, 2019. Games will be held every Saturday.

Futsal (Indoor Soccer)
Sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and the SLO County YMCA, Futsal is played on a small court with five players on each team with a variation of outdoor soccer rules. Open to boys and girls ages 5 -17. Teams will be divided up in grade levels.  Registration begins in early January.  Season begins in April.

MLBPAA ex-players Clinic

The 3rd Annual Clinic conducted by Former-Major League Baseball Players held at our very own Sinsheimer Baseball Stadium from 9am-11am with autographs to follow. Space is limited to the first 200 participants. Former Major League Baseball players will teach you the fundamentals of the game and life skills Playing catch or fielding grounders from your past hereos, possibly former Cy Young winners, All Star Players and World Series Champions is now a reality in SLO.  About Legends for Youth Clinic Series: Legends for Youth is a charitable program running more than 100 free events each year nationwide. Its mission is to promote the game of baseball to America's youth using positive sports images and personalities.

Junior Giants 2019

Junior Giants is a non-competitive baseball program that focuses on building confidence, teamwork, integrity and leadership skills. Junior Giants, for boys and girls, uses baseball as a tool to teach and encourage positive character development. All participants and their families must attend the Coaches and Team Parent meeting on Saturday, June 1, 2017 at 9:00 am, followed by a mandatory Orientation Meeting at 10:00 am at the Ludwick Community Center (864 Santa Rosa Street). Practices will be held Mondays and Tuesdays and games will be played on Wednesdays and Fridays – all at Throop Field.  No games on July 4th. Call (805) 781-7305 for more information.
