Welcome to the Laguna Lake Dog Park!

Bring your dogs to the City of San Luis Obispo's premier off-leash dog park to let them have some fun and socialize with other dogs! Surrounding Laguna Lake Dog Park are sprawling open spaces, beautiful lake views, a fun, unique playground, a disc golf course, fitness area, beach volleyball courts, and plenty of walking paths.

The newly renovated dog park is now a more accessible park for all types of dogs and owners with designated areas for large and small dogs. Come check out your dog's new favorite park.

Laguna Lake Dog Park is fenced around the full 3-acre perimeter with separate areas for large dogs and small dogs.

Dog owners/handlers are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries or related medical costs caused by them or their dogs. If a dog causes injury to another dog or human, contact information must be exchanged between dog owners/handlers.

Use of the dog park is at each owner/handler’s own risk. The City of San Luis Obispo is not responsible for any property loss, property damage, illness or injury to owners/handlers, or illness or injury to dogs sustained while at the dog park.

Dogs must be collared with I.D. tags listing current licensing and vaccinations (SLO County Animal Control Code Title 9; SLOMC 6.01.010.).

City of San Luis Obispo requires all dogs to be leashed outside of the gated dog areas (SLO County Animal Control Code Title 9; SLOMC 6.01.010.).

Owners and handlers:

Must leash and unleash dogs inside the double-gated holding area.
Are limited to no more than three (3) dogs per person.
Must pick up and properly dispose of all pet waste.
Must remain near (in eyesight of) their dogs at all times.
Must be 16 years of age or older.

Children under 12 years old must be carefully supervised by an adult at all times. Children may not run while in the dog park area.

Any dog exhibiting continued aggressive behavior must be removed immediately.

The following dogs are not allowed in the dog park: dogs in heat, puppies under 4 months old, unneutered dogs over 12 months old, non-licensed, or unvaccinated dogs.

The following items are not allowed within the dog park: canister sprays, airhorns, spray bottles, bark or spike collars, amplified sound devices, human food, alcohol, glass containers, or smoking of any kind (including e-cigarettes/vape pens).

Dogs (or humans) may not dig, climb fences, or bark excessively.

No unauthorized commercial or professional dog training/classes allowed.

Dog park is limited to use by owners/handlers, and domesticated dogs only for social purposes

Dog Park Etiquette

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your dog and others are safe and enjoy a wonderful experience at the Laguna Lake Dog Park.

Preparing to visit the park

Check your dog's health: Ensure your dog is healthy, free of any communicable illnesses, and up to date on vaccinations.
Consider time of day: Choose a less busy time for your dog's first visit, allowing them to acclimate to the environment.
Observe dog behavior: Assess your dog's temperament and social history with other dogs before entering the park. If unsure, consider a trial run with a friend's dog first.
Be mindful of others: If you have any doubt about your dog's suitability for the dog park, consider alternative social outlets.
Leash control: Keep your dog on a leash until you are safely inside the dog park's entry gates, allowing you to close one gate before releasing the leash.
Don’t crowd the gates: Avoid crowding at either of the gate entry or exits areas. Wait patiently for other dogs to enter or exit.
Supervise your dog: Stay with your dog and actively supervise their interactions with other dogs.
Observe dog body language: Learn to recognize signs of stress or aggression in your dog and other dogs.
Manage introductions: If your dog is hesitant to interact with other dogs, allow them to approach at their own pace.
Interrupt rough play: If play becomes too rough, call your dog back to you, allowing them to cool down before returning to the group.
Clean up after your dog: Always pick up after your dog, removing any waste to maintain a clean and pleasant environment.
Avoid distractions: Put away phones and other distractions, focusing on your dog and their interactions with other dogs.
Be aware of your dog's needs: If your dog seems overwhelmed or stressed, take them away from the park and try again another time.

Etiquette at the Dog Park

Unleash your dog in between the entry gates. Most dogs are more confident off-leash.
No food allowed within the dog park. Dogs get excited around food. Do not feed anyone else’s dog without their permission.
Children should be carefully watched. Do not run inside the dog park areas. Most dogs chase running dogs or kids, and this can be frightening and/or dangerous for the kids.
If there is a problem or dog fight, exchange information (names and phone numbers) with the owner of the other dog.
With shy or very old or very young dogs, avoid times when there are lots of other boisterous dogs playing.
Respect and utilize the appropriate Dog Area based your dog’s size/weight. The small dog park is sizes 25 lbs. or under and the large dog park is for sizes 25 lbs. and over.
It can be difficult to see dog wastes in the wood chips. If you find another dog’s poop, please be a good neighbor and pick it up.
Rinse and refill water containers if they are dirty.
