The Parks and Recreation Department provides several special events throughout the year focusing on enjoyable and affordable family entertainment.
40th Annual SLO Triathlon | July 28, 2019

The focus of the San Luis Obispo Triathlon is completion over competition. Each participant is encouraged to set and meet their own personal goals. This sprint course triathlon offers something for everyone, accommodating the novice participant while still challenging the experienced athlete. The start and finish happen at Sinsheimer Park. The swim is .5-mile and done in the SLO Swim Center, the transitions are in the parking lot next to the pool, the 15-mile bike is an out and back on Orcutt Road turning around at Tiffany Ranch Road, and the 3.1-mile run goes out the bike safety trial, across the Jennifer Street Bridge, up Johnson Rd, and back to finish into Sinsheimer Baseball Stadium. Registration opens Monday, January 7th at 9:00am, with our New Year’s Resolution Deal and prices go up on Saturday, April 20th.

Join the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department for a Mother’s Day Concert at the Historic Jack House and Garden. Bring a picnic and enjoy complementary cake and music in the beautiful garden.

The Parks and Recreation Department once again will partner with the SLO Police Department to host the Annual Bike Rodeo. The Bike Rodeo promotes the joy of riding with an emphasis on safety education. Children are instructed in bike safety techniques before taking a ride through “Safety Town”. Bike tune-ups are also conducted by local bike shop mechanics and helmets are checked for proper fit. Join the bike parade around Hawthorne School, during the event, allowing participants to put their safety skills into action. End the day with a BMX stunt show and prize giveaway. Goody bags and lunch are provided to each participant.
