Firewise USA Residents Reducing Wildfire RisksThe San Luis Obispo Fire Department (SLOFD) works with neighborhoods across the City to reduce wildfire risk through the Firewise USA® program.

As part of the City’s Prepare SLO initiative, Firewise empowers residents to take coordinated, practical steps to protect homes, neighborhoods, and critical infrastructure, particularly in areas near open space and within Fire Hazard Severity Zones.

What are the benefits of becoming a Firewise neighborhood?

Neighborhoods in San Luis Obispo, especially those adjacent to open space and within mapped Fire Hazard Severity Zones, face increased wildfire exposure. Firewise participation not only helps build local wildfire risk reduction, but it also can affect your homes insurance, helps with evacuations, and gets you access to funding and resources.
