The City of San Luis Obispo follows a nationally recognized two-year Financial Plan process. The Financial Plan links goals and objectives with resources needed to accomplish them. Council approval is required for each year of the budget cycle in order to appropriate the funding. The City of San Luis Obispo's budget is consistently awarded with the Government Finance Officer's Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
