Interested in Purchasing an Affordable Unit?

If you would like to be placed on our Interest List to receive notifications about future affordable housing units for purchase, fill out the form below. Please be aware that the City of San Luis Obispo does not own or manage affordable units. Contact a Real Estate Agent for information on properties for sale. The City does not keep a list of units for sale.

What is the Process to Purchase an Affordable Unit?

1. Check the City's Affordable Housing Standards to determine if you meet the income limitations for the unit's affordability level.

2. Meet with a mortgage lender to pre-qualify for a loan to purchase the unit.

3.Check local real estate MLS services for affordable units. An offer can be placed, accepted, and a purchase agreement can be established at this time pending income verification.

4. Potential buyers who have obtained a pre-qualification letter from a lender, AND an offer accepted on a unit, then need to contact the Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) in order to have their household income verified. Income verification costs $350 per application. Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo Tel: 805-543-4478 Street address: 487 Leff Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. 

5. AFTER certification and purchase agreement is in place, contact Cara Vereschagin at the City of San Luis Obispo, at (805) 781-7596 or cvereschagin@slocity.org for preparation of City documents. Please note: Preparation of City documents for submission to escrow requires 10-15 business days.

How do I follow these leads?

In order to purchase an affordable, please make note of the steps listed below:

1. Check the City's Affordable Housing Standards to determine if you meet the income limitations for the unit's affordability level.

A purchase agreement can be established at this time pending income verification OR offers can be accepted if household has already had their income certified (see Step 3).

3. Potential buyers who have obtained a pre-qualification letter from a lender then need to contact the Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) in order to have their household income verified.
