Economic Development & Tourism Manager

Laura Fiedler leads the Economic Development and Tourism team for the City of San Luis Obispo. She is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the economic strength of the City through business development, retention, and expansion, as well as job creation and tourism promotion. Laura collaborates with various stakeholders, including the City Council, City Manager, business groups, and community groups, to implement projects and policies that support local businesses and improve the overall economic landscape. A San Luis Obispo native, Laura brings to the City both public and private sector experience working at the intersection of businesses, government, and communities. She held a variety of policy, government, and community affairs roles in the energy industry and as a corporate responsibility and sustainability consultant. She also previously served as the Economic Development Manager for the County of San Luis Obispo. Laura holds a Master's degree in Foreign Service - Global Business and Finance from Georgetown University and a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University.

Tourism & Community Promotions Manager

Jacqui Clark-Charlesworth is the Tourism & Community Promotions Manager for the City of San Luis Obispo. Prior to joining the City team in March 2023, Jacqui was the Director of Communications at the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. During her nearly five-year tenure at the SLO Chamber, she oversaw all internal and external communications, programming for events like Good Morning SLO and the Annual Dinner, and supported the successful launch of impactful programs including Family-Friendly Workplaces.

Before coming to the Central Coast, Jacqui worked in sales management leading teams up to 100 people, both during and after graduating from California State University San Marcos with a degree in Mass Media Communications. As part of the Office of Economic Development & Tourism, Jacqui’s role is to facilitate the Community Promotions program to enhance the quality of the San Luis Obispo experience for both visitors and residents alike. Jacqui serves as the staff liaison to the San Luis Obispo Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) and Promotional Coordinating Committee (PCC), managing the daily operations for both highly visible and significant programs for the City of SLO.

Economic Development Analyst 

McKenzie Taffe is the Economic Development Analyst for the City of San Luis Obispo. She started her career at the City in 2022 as an intern, and upon graduation, worked as a legal assistant in the City Attorney’s office. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree from Cal Poly.

McKenzie is responsible for the implementation of the Economic Development Strategic Plan, and is your small business navigator.
