Public Art Highlights City’s Iconic Places on Parking Toll Booths

Post Date:10/31/2019 11:00 AM

Downtown San Luis Obispo is a bit more colorful, thanks to a new public beautification project. New art was installed at toll booths at the City’s three parking structures. The booth art matches artful banners that were recently installed throughout Downtown this summer that represents the vibrancy of our community and conveys a sense of welcome, diversity, and inclusion to both visitors and residents. The banner art was designed by local creative firm, (iii) Design and installed by Quality Tinting and Signs.  The art presents bold interpretations of familiar locales and highlights celebrations of diversity that happen throughout the City:

842 Palm Street:

  • Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa

 919 Palm Street:

  • Community: Ah Louis Store

 871 Marsh Street:

  • Heritage: “Iron Road Pioneers” statue in Railroad Square
  • Culture: Fremont Theatre
  • Habitat: California Poppies, Quail, and Seven Sister Peaks

The City operates three parking structures Downtown at 842 Palm, 919 Palm, and 871 Marsh streets. The first hour to park in the structures is always free, and the community is encouraged to utilize the structures rather than street meter parking if they have plans to be Downtown for an extended period of time. The Marsh Street structure also recently installed electric vehicle charging stations that are available for the public to use through the ChargePoint smartphone application on the structure’s ground floor.
