Community Invited to “Trees Among Us” Urban Forest Day

Post Date:05/21/2019

The City’s Urban Forest team invites the community to celebrate and learn about the “Trees Among Us” and the benefits that trees provide at a public event this Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to noon in Mission Plaza.

City Arborist Ron Combs will present what his team and the city are doing to create a robust urban forest in our community. Cal Poly’s Dr. Matt Ritter will lead a tree walk and discussion throughout Mission Plaza. Community members will be able to learn how to care for trees at their own homes. SLO Tree Friends, Pacific Coast Lumber, and Heritage Tree Arboricultural Consulting are participants.

The City cares for and maintains more than 20,000 trees, not including trees on private property. San Luis Obispo has been designated as a “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 36 consecutive years. To learn more about the program, please visit the city’s website
