TYPE OF INCIDENT: Arrest for Domestic Violence and Criminal Threats
PLACE OF OCCURRENCE: 1800 block of Homestead Place, San Luis Obispo
SUSPECT: Omar Gutierrez, 39-year-old resident of San Luis Obispo
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 12:24 p.m., San Luis Obispo Police Department received a call from a female who stated her boyfriend, Omar Gutierrez, had threatened to harm her at their home in the 1800 block of Homestead. She also shared that Gutierrez legally owned several firearms and that he also threatened to harm responding officers and neighbors.
Upon arrival, officers met the victim away from the home and confirmed that criminal threats had been made. The victim had fled the residence once the threats were made and was in fear of returning to her home.
Out of an abundance of caution, a perimeter was established around the residence, neighbors were evacuated, surrounding streets were closed to traffic, and aerial drones were deployed to assist officers. The San Luis Obispo Fire Department’s Mobile Crisis Unit (MCU) and members of the Police Department Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) responded to assist, and established communication with Gutierrez by mobile phone.
After approximately 30 minutes of negotiations, Gutierrez surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. The roadways were opened at approximately 5:30 pm and affected neighbors were able to return to their homes.
Gutierrez was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a medical condition and will be booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail for the following charges:
PC 422(a) - Felony criminal threats
PC 273.5(a) - Felony domestic violence causing bodily injury
PC 243(e)(1) - Misdemeanor domestic battery
After Gutierrez was taken into custody, members of the San Luis Obispo Police Department’s Detectives Bureau served a warrant at the home and recovered a handgun registered to Gutierrez.
