Have you ever wondered how you can influence the decisions made in local government? The City of San Luis Obispo invites you to learn more about how you can make your voice heard.  

The City is partnering with the League of Women Voters to host a public workshop open to all called Your City, Your Voice at City Hall on August 27 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This event is free and registration is not required. However, space is limited. Save your spot by registering online.

“Local government is often the most accessible form of government and participating is your opportunity to help shape decisions that affect the whole community,” said Matt Pennon, the City’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Manager. “Every time a community member participates, that contributes to a more informed, inclusive, and representative decision-making process and can inspire meaningful change for both current and future generations.” 

This event is the third session of The Belonging Project, a free series of public activities, cultural events, and collaborative partnerships created to build understanding and create a more connected San Luis Obispo.  

This interactive workshop will help attendees understand how to access public meeting information, practice public speaking, learn how to stay informed about upcoming public input opportunities, and feel more confident participating in local government.  Speaking during City Council meetings during the public comment period is an important opportunity to share your lived experiences, advocate for the issues that matter most, and help decision-makers better understand the needs and priorities of the people they serve.
