The City of San Luis Obispo is inviting community members to participate in an upcoming Climate Action Plan Community Workshop next Wednesday, July 22, 2026. This workshop is a key public input opportunity that will help shape the next phase of local climate action efforts.

“We're at an important point in our climate action journey. As we update our 2020 Climate Action Plan, we'd love to hear your thoughts about what you want to see more of," said Chris Read, the City’s Sustainability Manager.

For decades, San Luis Obispo community members have played an essential role in advancing environmental stewardship, from protecting natural lands and improving air and water quality to supporting climate-conscious City policies.

These efforts led to the adoption of the Climate Action Plan for Community Recovery in 2020, which set an ambitious course toward carbon neutrality by 2035 and outlined major strategies such as clean energy, transportation improvements, organic waste composting, and expansion of the City’s greenbelt and urban forest.

The upcoming workshop will focus on what comes next. Community members will have the chance to share ideas, concerns, and priorities that will help inform the Climate Action Plan update that will direct City efforts from 2027 through 2031.

During the workshop, participants will explore the alternative futures facing San Luis Obispo and learn how natural solutions, green buildings, clean energy systems, transportation improvements, increased housing options, and other strategies can reduce climate pollution while improving the quality of life for all residents.

Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions, share their perspectives, and help shape the next chapter of climate action in San Luis Obispo.
