Here's a look at the work planned for the coming weeks as we continue improving neighborhoods across the city with projects that enhance safety, accessibility, and connectivity.

Sewer & Water Projects

Work to upgrade vital infrastructure and enhance the reliability, capacity, and safety of our water and sewer system is underway. See what areas we’re working on below.

Higuera Street: We expect to wrap-up well development work. We’ll be continuing storm drain repairs at Mariposa Drive and Las Praderas Drive. Commuters can expect minimal traffic impacts due to no parking in the areas. Monitoring well work is happening in different locations on Higuera Street from Los Osos Valley Road to High Street to help track the condition of the City’s groundwater.

Islay Sewer Replacement: We expect to begin trench work to start pulling out the current sewer line to get ready to replace it with new pipes for the next couple of months. Work is anticipated to start on Chorro Street between Buchon and Islay Streets and will be happening one block at a time. Work will be Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Construction will continue onto Islay Street from Chorro to Santa Rosa Streets, then later to Leff Street. During construction, commuters and pedestrians can expect traffic impacts due to lane closures, flagging, sidewalk closures, and intermittent road closures with detours.

Park Projects

Righetti Community Park: We’ll be continuing on-site foundational work such as grading and retaining wall work. We also expect to start plumbing work for the park restroom as soon as next week. Community members can expect minimal traffic impacts due to vehicles and equipment moving in and out of the area. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours. Standard construction hours will be 7 a.m.– 4 p.m.

Mission Plaza Enhancement: Finishing touches like landscaping work and small outstanding items are continuing for the project at the Mission Plaza. Commuters can expect little to no traffic delays in the project area. Pedestrians will have sidewalk access.

Coming Soon:

  • Curb ramp work as part of the South & King Intersection Improvement Project
  • Utility work on Tiburon Way near the Ranch House Road roundabout as part of the Righetti Ranch Community Park.

Please keep an eye out for orange cones and active construction sites and remember to:

Why These Projects Matter

While these construction projects may create temporary disruptions, we want to emphasize their significance in shaping the future and protecting the City San Luis Obispo. Each project is community-driven and essential to our city's future. They are not just about fixing roads, creeks, and adding bike lanes; they're a vital part of our collective vision for San Luis Obispo.

Once complete, they will keep SLO in motion, keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape, making it easier and safer for community members to get around, connecting communities, and creating healthy recreational opportunities for community members.

As you navigate through these construction zones, please remember that the inconveniences you may face today are investments in a brighter and more accessible tomorrow.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we are shaping the future of San Luis Obispo, one project at a time.
