Check out what we have going on in the upcoming weeks as we continue to make progress on our ongoing neighborhood enhancement projects aimed at making our city safer, more accessible, and better connected.

Transportation, Pavement, & Mobility Improvements

Work to upgrade and add more safety improvements to key streets and intersections is still underway. We expect to continue work in the areas below

Higuera Street & Orcutt Road: We expect to continue traffic signal updates and installing signs at the intersections of S. Higuera Street and Suburban Road as well as Orcutt Road and Sacramento Drive/Duncan Road. Commuters can expect lane closures, lane shifting, and a flashing signal in the area from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.

South Street: We expect to continue electrical work at the intersection of South & King Streets to set up an electrical meter for a new and highly visible Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon crosswalk sign. Electrical work is expected to take only a week and once complete, work will pause for several months until supplies arrive. During the electrical work commuters can expect a bike lane closure and pedestrians can expect a small sidewalk detour. Please drive carefully and share the road in the area.

Sewer & Water Projects

Work to upgrade vital groundwork to enhance the reliability, capacity, and safety of our water and sewer system is underway. See what areas we’re working on below.

Higuera Street: We expect to begin installing monitoring wells for the next couple of months at different locations on Higuera Street from Los Osos Valley Road to High Street to help track the condition of the City’s groundwater. Initial work includes drilling the holes to later install the rigs. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to no parking in the areas and shoulder closures.

Park Projects

Righetti Community Park: We’ll be continuing sidewalk and gutter demolition outside of the Righetti Community Park site. Crews are also expected to be on-site doing foundational work such as grading. Construction for the Community Park will occur in phases and community members can expect typical construction noise, along with vehicles and equipment moving in and out of the area. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours. Standard construction hours will be 7 a.m.– 4 p.m.

Mission Plaza Project: Work will be continuing on-site for the Mission Plaza Enhancement Project. Work will continue on site, as we wrap up paving around the area. Commuters can expect minimal traffic delays due to flagging and construction trucks entering and leaving the area on Monterey Street between Broad and Palm Streets. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours.

Why These Projects Matter

While these construction projects may create temporary disruptions, we want to emphasize their significance in shaping the future and protecting the City San Luis Obispo. Each project is community-driven and essential to our city's future. They are not just about fixing roads, creeks, and adding bike lanes; they're a vital part of our collective vision for San Luis Obispo.

Once complete, they will keep SLO in motion, keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape, making it easier and safer for community members to get around, connecting communities, and creating healthy recreational opportunities for community members.

As you navigate through these construction zones, please remember that the inconveniences you may face today are investments in a brighter and more accessible tomorrow.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we are shaping the future of San Luis Obispo, one project at a time.
