TYPE OF INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
PLACE OF OCCURRENCE: Broad Street, San Luis Obispo

The motorcycle rider has been identified as 25 year old Jeremiah Gerlach, resident of San Luis Obispo. The collision is still under investigation.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 9:00 am, a motorcyclist traveling southbound on Broad Street collided with a northbound vehicle that was turning left onto Caudill Street. The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Because of the severity of the collision, the Severe Collision Investigation Detail (SCID) team was called out to the scene. SCID conducts investigations into serious traffic accidents involving fatalities. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, DUI is not suspect as a cause in this collision.
The decedents name will be provided once next of kin has been notified.
