Return to SLO in Motion News
Check out what we have going on in the upcoming weeks as we continue to make progress on our ongoing neighborhood enhancement projects aimed at making our city safer, more accessible, and better connected.
Transportation, Pavement, & Mobility Improvements
Work to upgrade and add more safety improvements to key streets and intersections is still underway. We expect to continue work in the areas below.
- Prado Road: We expect to continue potholing work on Prado Road from South Higuera Street to Elks Lane to safely and precisely locate underground utilities like gas, water, electric, and fiber. This process typically entails crews digging small test holes in the road. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to rolling traffic and lane shifting in the area.
- Tank Farm Road: We expect to continue grinding and paving work from Wavertree Street to Poinsettia Street as we make our way towards Broad Street. We’ll be working on one side of the road at a time and will maintain traffic flowing in two directions.
To minimize the traffic impacts during the day, we expect to begin night work as early as this weekend for one night and resume as early as mid-week next week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. While nightwork is underway, we expect to have the traffic light at the intersection of Broad Street and Tank Farm Road on flash (please treat this as an all-way stop). Commuters can expect traffic delays due to flagging, lane closures and shifting. Please drive carefully through the work zone, plan for extra travel time, and share this information with your neighbors.
- Sacramento Drive: We plan to continue utility work and temporary striping from Industrial Way to Via Esteban. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to flagging and lane shifting. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the work.
- Monterey Street: We expect to begin finishing touches of the sidewalk replacement between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets including setting tile and paving the street portion of the sidewalk. Work is anticipated to last a couple more weeks, and commuters can expect minor traffic impacts due to construction vehicles in the area. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours and access to businesses in the area will remain open.
Additionally, we expect to do utility work at the intersection of Monterey Street & California Boulevard in relation to the HASLO project in the area. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to rolling traffic and lane shifting in the area.
Park Projects
Work will be continuing on-site for the Mission Plaza Enhancement Project. Work will continue on site, as we wrap up paving around the area. Commuters can expect minimal traffic delays due to flagging and construction trucks entering and leaving the area on Monterey Street between Broad and Palm Streets. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours.

Parking Projects
We are continuing sidewalk and landscaping work as part of the Cultural Arts District Parking Garage. We also expect to begin striping and utility work on Palm, Nipomo, and Monterey Streets. While we expect to open up Palm, Nipomo, and Monterey Streets as early as next week, commuters can still expect minor traffic delays due to intermittent flagging and lane shifting.
Coming Soon
2025 Transportation, Paving, & Mobility Improvements:
- Permanent striping of Sacramento Drive from Via Esteban to Industrial Way
- Paving operations on Tank Farm Road from Poinsettia Street to Broad Street.
Please keep an eye out for orange cones and active construction sites and remember to:
Allow Extra Travel Time: Due to ongoing construction, please allow for extra travel time when navigating these areas.
Slow Down for Construction Crews: Please reduce your speed and exercise caution when driving through construction zones. Slow down if you see orange cones. Our dedicated crews are working diligently to make San Luis Obispo safer for everyone.
Why These Projects Matter
While these construction projects may create temporary disruptions, we want to emphasize their significance in shaping the future and protecting the City San Luis Obispo. Each project is community-driven and essential to our city's future. They are not just about fixing roads, creeks, and adding bike lanes; they're a vital part of our collective vision for San Luis Obispo.
Once complete, they will keep SLO in motion, keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape, making it easier and safer for community members to get around, connecting communities, and creating healthy recreational opportunities for community members.
As you navigate through these construction zones, please remember that the inconveniences you may face today are investments in a brighter and more accessible tomorrow.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we are shaping the future of San Luis Obispo, one project at a time.
