Apply Now to Serve Your Community on a City Advisory Body

Have you been looking for ways to represent your community in local government? Apply to serve on an Advisory Body to the City Council by March 29, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Community members can apply to provide oversight and policy direction on a variety of matters, such as community events, public transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation, equity, citations, architecture changes and plans in SLO, and more.

Serving on a City Advisory Body is a rewarding way to make a real difference in San Luis Obispo. Community members are the underpinning of local government, and we need people who are interested in representing their community on issues that matter most.

Every year, the City Council appoints community members to advisory bodies, each of which serves an important role in City government. This year, the City of San Luis Obispo is looking to fill 26 volunteer positions on various advisory committees, boards, and commissions.

During last week’s City Council meeting, the City Council approved updates to its Council Policies and Procedures Manual and the Advisory Body Handbook to shift the annual advisory body recruitment process to a January through June timeline. Prior to this change, recruitment was often held between November and March every year.

Updating the recruitment timeline will give new Council Members more time get better acquainted with their role before conducting interviews and avoids the busy holiday season. To align with the new schedule, current advisory body member terms and chair/vice chair terms that were set to expire on March 31, 2026, were extended to June 30, 2026.
