PLACE OF OCCURRENCE: 900 block of Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo
SUSPECT: Matthew Dylan Jones, age 54, resident of San Luis Obispo
VICTIM: Female, age 65

DETAILS:

On Friday, February 6, 2026, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Monterey Street for the report of a stabbing. Officers located a female at her apartment who had a significant injury on her arm consistent with being struck with a straight edged object. She was transported to a local hospital for care.

SLOPD Detectives conducted further investigation and determined that the victim had been injured by her partner, Matthew Dylan Jones, who also lived at the apartment, but fled prior to officers arrival.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, officers attempted to contact the victim at her residence and discovered the suspect was back inside the apartment with the victim, but refused to open the door. Several attempts were made to reach Jones by telephone, but he was uncooperative and stopped responding to officers.

Based on the violent nature of the original incident, the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team was activated. On Sunday, February 8, 2026 at approximately 8:21am, Jones was peacefully taken into custody without incident. He was booked into SLO County Jail for the following charges: PC 245(a)(1) - Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon and PC 273.5(a)(1) - Felony Domestic Violence. Bail was set at $50,000.
