Check out what we have going on in the upcoming weeks as we continue to make progress on our ongoing neighborhood enhancement projects aimed at making our city safer, more accessible, and better connected.

Transportation, Pavement, & Mobility Improvements

We expect to begin installing a sculpture at the roundabout on Froom Ranch Way and Heirloom Place. Installation is expected to take a few days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Commuters can expect traffic delays due to intermittent road closures, flagging, and equipment trucks entering and exiting the area. Please drive carefully in this area and watch out for workers in the roundabout. 

Work to upgrade and add more safety improvements to key streets and intersections is still underway. We expect to continue work in the areas below. 

• Broad Street: We expect to begin an emergency water line repair on Broad Street between Woodbridge and South Streets. Work is expected to take place for one night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize traffic delays during the day. Commuters can expect traffic delays in the area due to flagging, lane shifting and closures, as well as intermittent road closures. 
  
  
• Monterey Street: We plan to begin sidewalk replacement between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets. Work is anticipated to last a couple weeks, and commuters can expect minor traffic impacts due to construction vehicles in the area. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours and access to businesses in the area will remain open. 
  
  
• Grande Avenue: We plan to resume work in this area at the end of the month. 
  
  
• Sacramento Drive: We’re wrapping up the paving of the parking and bike lane areas and plan to begin paving the vehicle lanes as early as next week from Industrial Way to Via Esteban. Crews anticipate working on one side of the road at a time. Commuters can expect minor traffic delays due to flagging and lane shifting. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the work. Work is anticipated to take place during standard construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the possibility of nightwork to minimize traffic impacts during the day.
  
  
• Tank Farm Road: We’ve completed curb ramp work at Tank Farm and paving is anticipated to begin in this area once paving on Sacramento Drive is complete. 

Park Projects

While we are taking longer than expected, we are about 90% complete with the Mission Plaza Enhancement Project.

This project is the culmination of years of planning and visioning, rooted in the City’s longstanding commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community space, and we want to make sure it’s done right. While the team is working hard, some extra time is needed to address details and ensure the highest quality. The City, the contractor, and our construction management team are working together to keep things moving while making sure the final result is something we can all be proud of. 

While we continue to work on site, we also plan to begin paving work in the area for the next couple of weeks. Commuters can expect traffic delays due to flagging, lane closures, and intermittent road closures on Monterey Street between Broad and Palm Streets. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures and detours.

Parking Projects 

We are continuing sidewalk and street restoration work as part of the Cultural Arts District Parking Garage. During construction, commuters can expect a closure of Nipomo Street from Palm to Dana Streets with detours provided. Monterey Street is expected to be open from Nipomo to Broad Streets. Work is expected to last a few weeks and is estimated to take place from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. but the road closure is expected to be 24/7.   

Please keep an eye out for orange cones and active construction sites and remember to:  

Allow Extra Travel Time: Due to ongoing construction, please allow for extra travel time when navigating these areas. 


Slow Down for Construction Crews: Please reduce your speed and exercise caution when driving through construction zones. Slow down if you see orange cones. Our dedicated crews are working diligently to make San Luis Obispo safer for everyone.

While these construction projects may create temporary disruptions, we want to emphasize their significance in shaping the future and protecting the City San Luis Obispo. Once complete, they will keep SLO in motion, keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape, making it easier and safer for community members to get around, connecting communities, and creating healthy recreational opportunities for community members.
