The posting of the notices here goes beyond the State's requirements to provide community members information regarding pending official actions or hearings.

ORDINANCE NO. 1754 (2026 SERIES)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA, ADDING CHAPTER 2.38, TITLED “CITYWIDE SINGLE VOTE METHOD OF ELECTING CITY COUNCILMEMBERS” TO THE SAN LUIS OBISPO MUNICIPAL CODE, IMPLEMENTING A NEW METHOD FOR ELECTIONS OF CITY COUNCILMEMBERS AND ADOPTING REGULATIONS PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS BY CITYWIDE SINGLE VOTE BEGINNING IN NOVEMBER 2026


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that the City Council of the City of San Luis Obispo, California, at its rescheduled Regular Meeting of January 13, 2026, introduced the above-titled ordinance upon a motion by Mayor Stewart, second by Council Member Shoresman, and on the following roll call vote:

AYES: Council Member Boswell, Marx, Shoresman, Vice Mayor Francis, and Mayor Stewart
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

 

Ordinance No. 1754 (2026 Series): This is a City Ordinance adding Chapter 2.38, titled “Citywide Single Vote Method of Electing City Councilmembers” to the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code, implementing a new method for elections of City Councilmembers. as required by a settlement agreement and stipulated judgment agreed to by the City to avoid litigation and resolve a California Voting Rights Act demand by implementing Citywide Single vote as an alternative to district elections for City Councilmembers.  The ordinance also  adoptss regulations directing and providing for the administration of City Council elections by Citywide Single Vote beginning in November 2026.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of San Luis Obispo will consider adopting the Ordinance at its Regular Meeting of January 20, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo. The City Council meeting will be televised live on Charter Cable Channel 20 and live streaming on the City’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/CityofSanLuisObispo.
