DETAILS:
On Wednesday, December 17th, 2025, at approximately 6:13 AM, San Luis Obispo Police and Fire responded to the 200 block of Santa Rosa for a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision.
During the initial investigation, it appears a 70-year-old female San Luis Obispo community member was crossing Santa Rosa Street in the predawn hours from the east sidewalk before being struck in the northbound traffic lane. She suffered major injuries and despite lifesaving efforts by police and fire responders, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld at this time pending notification to her family. Due to the severity of the collision, northbound Santa Rosa was shut down between Montalban and Murray for several hours to facilitate a thorough crash investigation by the SLOPD Severe Collision Investigative Detail (SCID).
The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old resident of San Luis Obispo, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision.
