Return to SLO in Motion News

Check out what we have going on in the upcoming weeks as we continue to make progress on our ongoing neighborhood enhancement projects aimed at making our city safer, more accessible, and better connected. While exact schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unplanned conditions, the City of San Luis Obispo is committed to keeping the community informed as construction progresses.

Please note, due to the holidays and weather we do not plan to send an update on December 27, 2025.

Transportation, Pavement, & Mobility Improvements

Work to upgrade and add more safety improvements to key streets and intersections is still underway. We expect to continue work in the areas below.

  • Grande Avenue: We’ve completed striping work and expect to begin installing signage and lane dividers (channelizers) between Slack and Abbott Streets. We anticipate starting on Slack Street and making our way down to Abbot Street. Commuters and pedestrians can expect shoulder closures and sidewalk closures with detours.

  • Sacramento Drive: We plan to pause paving work in this area until early January due to weather and equipment availability.

  • Tank Farm Road: We’re close to wrapping up curb ramp work at Morning Glory Way. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk closures with detours. Commuters can expect traffic impacts due to bike lane closures, lane closures and shifting, and intermittent flagging.

Commuters can expect traffic delays in project areas due to road closures with detours, flagging, and lane shifting. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the work. Work is anticipated to take place during standard construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sewer & Waterline Projects

Work to upgrade vital groundwork to enhance the reliability, capacity, and safety of our water and sewer system is underway. See what areas we’re working on:

We are nearly complete with the Groundwater Well south of the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) on the Bob Jones Trail. We are close to wrapping up well drilling work and water testing. Community members in the neighborhood adjacent to the Bob Jones Trail can expect increased noise and dust during construction as we work 24/7 for a couple more days to build a more resilient water supply for the City.

Parking Projects

We are continuing sidewalk and street restoration work as part of the Cultural Arts District Parking Garage. During construction, commuters can expect a closure of Nipomo Street from Dana Street to Higuera Street and Monterey Street from Nipomo Street to Broad Street with detours provided. Work is expected to last a few weeks and is estimated to take place from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. but the road closure is expected to be 24/7.

Please keep an eye out for orange cones and active construction sites and remember to:

Why These Projects Matter

While these construction projects may create temporary disruptions, we want to emphasize their significance in shaping the future and protecting the City San Luis Obispo. Each project is community-driven and essential to our city's future. They are not just about fixing roads, creeks, and adding bike lanes; they're a vital part of our collective vision for San Luis Obispo.

Once complete, they will keep SLO in motion, keeping our infrastructure in tip-top shape, making it easier and safer for community members to get around, connecting communities, and creating healthy recreational opportunities for community members.

As you navigate through these construction zones, please remember that the inconveniences you may face today are investments in a brighter and more accessible tomorrow.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we are shaping the future of San Luis Obispo, one project at a time.
