The City of San Luis Obispo is excited to announce the approval of the construction contract for the Righetti Community Park—one of the most anticipated projects in the City’s park system. On December 2, 2025, the City Council approved the construction contract for multiple phases of the Righetti Community Park, awarding the project to Brough Construction, Inc. in the amount of $13.6 million.
“This is one of the largest park projects in over 20 years and a significant investment in our City’s future,” said Greg Avakian, Parks & Recreation Director. “Righetti Community Park will be a vibrant, inclusive space where people of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the beauty of San Luis Obispo.”
The full Righetti Ranch Park system is anticipated to be built in phases that includes four distinct park properties:
- Righetti Community Park (the largest of the three),
- The Righetti Hill trailhead and trail which incorporates multi-use trails (opened in May 2025)
- A linear park which will incorporate a small dog park and community gardens,
- A pocket park which supports peaceful community gathering
The community park’s design has evolved since its initial concept in 2016, shaped by extensive community input over the past three years, and supporting the initiatives outlined within the Parks + Recreation Blueprint for the Future: 2021–2041, adopted in July 2021. The result is a thoughtfully planned park system that reflects the community’s values and priorities.
