Presentations

Consent Agenda Highlights

Council approved all items on the Consent Agenda, including:

  • An agreement with City Farm SLO to expand access to local farmland and provide more space for agricultural education, volunteer opportunities and growth of produce donated to SLO Food Bank.
  • Final map approval for the Avila Ranch housing development, allowing continued progress on new homes as well as mixed-use lots, and various lots for open space, parks, and agriculture.
  • Applications for two grants that would help improve water systems and local parks.
  • Participation in PG&E’s EV Fleet Program to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Public Hearing: Update on California & Taft Roundabout

The City is one step closer to reducing collisions and improving walkability in the heavily used corridor of California Boulevard near Cal Poly. The Council held a public hearing and adopted a resolution to acquire easements on property needed to build the long-planned California & Taft roundabout. If needed, the City will move forward with this important Capital Improvement Plan project by initiating eminent domain proceedings. The project supports community safety and community priorities related to infrastructure and sustainable transportation and is an important part of the City’s overall plans to improve traffic safety and circulation in San Luis Obispo.

Business Item: Response to Grand Jury Report

The Council approved a formal response to the San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury Report, "Round and Round with Town and Gown,” which was published in June 2025 following a Grand Jury investigation into complaints from some residents in neighborhoods near Cal Poly over noise violations, unruly gatherings, and other disturbances. The City understands that noisy parties in neighborhoods surrounding Cal Poly can be disruptive and the City has taken significant steps to improve safety and enforcement in these neighborhoods. The City is already doing much of what the Grand Jury recommends in its report, and many of the problems identified also require shared responsibility from Cal Poly. We will continue to work together to address these issues and have prioritized neighborhood livability this year and next year. Read a summary of the City’s response.

Looking Ahead

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. NOTE: This meeting will start earlier than most regular City Council meetings. The community is invited to save the date for this meeting, as there will be an important discussion studying statewide property fire-safety standards that affect more property owners in San Luis Obispo now that updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones have been adopted.

Attendees of City Council or Advisory Body meetings are eligible for one hour of complimentary parking in designated City garages. Learn more at Parking for Public Meetings.
