TYPE OF INCIDENT: Arrest for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

PLACE OF OCCURRENCE: 1000 Block Pismo Ave, Los Osos, CA

SUSPECT: David Augustine Hurley, 28 years old, resident of Los Osos

DETAILS:

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is part of the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) which partners with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to investigate crimes involving Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Electronic Service Providers such as Facebook, Google, Reddit, etc. will generate Cybertips if someone using their platform is found to be uploading videos or images of child pornography. These Cybertips are then forwarded to the appropriate jurisdiction for investigation depending on the geolocation of the IP address.

After a complex investigation involving three separate Cybertips and over 600 reported files of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), San Luis Obispo Police Detectives arrested David Hurley for felony possession and distribution of child pornography on July 30, 2025 at his place of employment in Los Osos.

SLOPD Detectives then served a search warrant at Hurley’s residence on the 1000 Pismo Ave. in Los Osos and seized electronic devices for evidence. Hurley was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on the following charges:

PC 311.11(a)(1) – Felony Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

PC 311.11(c)(1) – Felony Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material in excess of 600 images

PC 311.2(b) – Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material

This investigation is on-going; Detectives do not have reason to believe there are local victims. Should the public have information related to this arrest, please contact Detective Marques at 805-594-8060 or Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
