Sewer System Management Plan (pdf)
The City of San Luis Obispos wastewater
collection system consists of one hundred and thirty miles of sewer pipe (at an average
depth of six feet), over 2,500 manholes, and eight sewage pump stations. This system
conveys approximately 4.5 million gallons of wastewater per day to the Citys Water
Reclamation Facility.
What
We Do
The City of San Luis Obispo's Wastewater Collection Division consists of
nine employees. The Wastewater Collection Supervisor oversees eight
employees divided into four, two-man crews. The crews are: preventative
maintenance, area maintenance, inspections and storm drains. Workloads &
scheduled maintenance (preventative and area maintenance) are managed
using an infrastructure database system.
Preventative
Maintenance
This crew performs scheduled preventative cleaning of problem sewer
mains, applies chemical root treatments to inhibit root growth, and main
line repairs of defective sewer mains.
Area Maintenance
This crew performs area scheduled maintenance of sewer mains not on
a preventative maintenance program. Their goal is to clean the complete
sewer system every three to five years, install new and replacement
sewer main connections (wyes) and responds to sewer related calls during
regular business hours.
Inspection Crew
This crew inspects and evaluates sewer main connections using a
closed circuit television camera. Inspects, maintains and repairs our
ten sewer pump stations.
Storm Drains
This crew cleans storm drain inlets & storm mains, inspects
condition of storm drain infrastructures using CCTV cameras. Manages the
program using an infrastructure database program and is a partnership
with the Public Works Dept.
