Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What control does the City have over cable television rates and programming?

A: The City is only able to regulate cable rates for the basic tier of programming to the degree that they fall outside a formula set by the Federal Communications Commission. All requested rate increases are reviewed by a technical consultant to assure that they are within the legal parameters. The City has no regulatory authority over programming.

Q: How can my organization become eligible for a cultural grant?

A: Applications for grants are evaluated annually for grants which are given each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).  Applications are normally accepted from the second week of February to the second week of March, for the following fiscal year. Notices of the grant application “window” are placed in the local newspaper.  Potential applicants may request an application by phoning 805-781-7123 during the application period.
