Traffic Safety
The goal of the
Traffic Safety Unit is to use education, engineering and enforcement
to increase traffic safety in San Luis Obispo. Input from the
community is important to reveal problem areas.
The unit is
currently staffed with one Sergeant and four officers who work from
fully marked police motorcycles.

Current
Programs
The ‘Avoid the 14’ grant against drunk and drug impaired drivers
runs from October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013. The campaign
includes DUI checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, Warrant/Probation
sweeps, and Court stings. The Office of Traffic Safety has funded
overtime for officers to conduct DUI related events during the grant
period. Every DUI arrest made by officers working this campaign
means fewer drunk drivers having a negative impact on our community.
