Senior Center

Senior Center MemberBe a part of a viable, eclectic group of individuals involved in strengthening community image, fostering human development, and having a good time.  Come by the San Luis Obispo Senior Center to join in the clubs, services, and fun.  The center is located at 1445 Santa Rosa on a corner of Mitchell Park in beautiful downtown San Luis Obispo.  Membership is open to city residents 55 and over at the cost of $10 per year.  All members receive a monthly newsletter, access to the Senior Center during hours of operation, free coffee at the center, and first chance to sign-up for the recreation programs below.  Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.  All activities listed below take place at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted.  For more information please call (805) 781-7306 or e-mail Linda Fitzgerald at the Parks & Recreation Department.

Recreation Programs

w       Bingo:  Try your luck at this age-old game of numbers and letters.  Meet old friends and make new ones at the San Luis Obispo Senior Center on Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m.  Just show up to play or call 781-7306.

w        Bridge:    Enjoy the mental stimulation and camaraderie of this classic card game.   Party & Duplicate Bridge for beginners and all skill levels are offered at various times Monday through Wednesday and Friday.  Call for specific game times and days.

w        Gentle Exercise for Seniors:  Come get active in this spirited program that exercises the body, mind and soul.  Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

w       Round-Table Readers:  Let the mind explore the literary world with this interactive book club that meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Rancho San Luis Mobile Home Park Clubhouse (on South Higuera Street) for the months of August, September and October at which point will be relocated to the Senior Center after the kitchen remodel has been complete. Various authors, topics, and novels are discussed each month.

Clubs/Groups

w        Camera Club:  2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 801 Grand Ave., San Luis Obispo. 

w        Craft-Sew Group:  Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

w        Executive Board Meeting: 2nd Monday of the month 10:00 a.m.

w       Gem & Mineral Club: 1st Tuesday of the month 7:00-9:45 p.m., Info:  John Dunn, 544-2122.

w     Luncheon & Business Meeting at 12:00 noon on the third Wednesday of every month.  Call the Senior Center at 781-7306 to sign up.

w        Silver Streaks:  1st, 4th & 5th Thursdays at 8:00 a.m.  Volunteer your time to support mailing efforts of local non-profit agencies.  Call 781-7306 for more information.

Services

w        Food Giveaway: First Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. open to all low income families, second and fourth Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. open to low-income seniors only.

w    Free Legal Service:  The second Friday of each month between 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Call 781-7306 to set up an appointment.

w   Health Screening:  The second Thursday of every other month.  Call 781-7306 for dates and times.
