GENERAL
INFORMATION
-
“Islay” comes
from the Salinan word Yslay or Slay meaning wild cherry or
chokecherry – used by the Chumash.
-
Islay Hill is the
southern most Morro of the series of nine. The Morros consist of
nine peaks located in San Luis Obispo County. The nine are made up
of volcanic intrusive rocks. That is, rocks which meddled into a
previously existing set of unrelated rocks, broke through and pushed
them aside. With subsequent erosion, the peaks which are so
prominent in the area today were formed.
-
There is a 400
foot altitude gain.
