Monster Skate Park Series 2014 at Local Skate Parks
Skateboarders of all abilities and ages are invited to participate in the Monster Skate Park Series. The series travels across San Luis Obispo County and visits six different skate parks to tally points for each skater. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Age Divisions: 7 and under, 8-10, 11-13, 14-17, Women (all ages), Elite Division (sponsored 18+)

Mother's Day Concert 2014
at the Historic Jack House and Gardens

Enjoy an afternoon of music in the serene Jack House Gardens and take a tour of the historic Victorian home. All mothers attending receive a complimentary flower.

Dive-In Movie 2014 at the SLO Swim Center
Enjoy the family favorite Shark Tale on a big screen while lounging poolside or dive in and make a splash in the lighted pool. Itís fun for the whole family. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m.

35th Anniversary of the SLO Triathlon
at Sinsheimer Park

This short course triathlon (0.5 mile swim, 15.3 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) is a community favorite which accommodates everyone from the novice to the experienced athlete. Visit for more information.

"Haunted" Jack House 2014 at the Historic Jack House
The Jack family lived in this house for nearly 100 years, but it has been many a decade since anyone occupied the old place. Strange noises have been heard emanating from these old walls. Could ghosts be hiding in the closets or wandering down stairs? Come find out! Tour the dimly-lit house and learn Jack family history and maybe more. Last tour begins at 3:30 pm. Children 12 & under free.

Munchkin March 2014 at Meadow Park

Join the Parks and Recreation Department and Mindful Mothers for a family-friendly costume parade. Munchkins (and their families) will enjoy food, games and activities, as well as partake in a parade around the park. All parade participants are asked to bring a canned food item to be donated to the Food Bank Coalition of SLO County. The night concludes with a kid-friendly outdoor movie on the Meadow Park lawn.

Reindeer Run 5K Run/Walk 2014 at Mitchell Park
The 5K route is perfect for runners and walkers of all abilities. Enjoy pancakes with Santa at the Senior Center immediately following the run/walk. Event t-shirt and breakfast ticket included; holiday themed costumes encouraged! Additional breakfast with Santa tickets may be purchased for $10/adult; $5/child (12 and under). Race Day Registration starts at 7 am; run begins at 8 am.

Community/Major Special Events
Many special events are held throughout San Luis Obispo annually ranging from fun runs, festivals, parades, crafts fairs and more. For more information on any of the events on the calendar, contact Devin Hyfield, Recreation Supervisor, at (805) 781-7295.


Special Events Application Process
All organizers wishing to host a special event within the City of San Luis Obispo must complete a Special Events Permit Application.

  • Note: This application is best viewed in Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

  • Download the PDF. Once complete, save and send as an attachment to

  • All components of the application must be thoroughly completed.

  • The application must be received at least 90 days prior to the event.

  • All special event fees applicable to your event are determined by the fee policy included in the Special Events Ordinance.

Special Event Fees: all fees subject to change
Application Fee: $70 (non-refundable)
Permit Processing Fee: $10 (non-refundable)
Facility Fee: $460

Two downtown locations are available: the intersection of Higuera and Chorro and the intersection of Marsh and Carmel.

  • All Street Banner Reservation Requests MUST be made online.

  • Banners are permitted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • For the complete Banner Reservation process, find easy to use instructions here.
  • Banner Reservations are NOT guaranteed until the reservation request has been approved and full payment is received. Full payment MUST be received within five business days of approval or the permit will be canceled.

  • NOTE: The minimum size a banner can be is 3 ft. x 8 ft. and the maximum is 4 ft. x 24 ft. Banners not meeting minimum requirements WILL NOT BE HUNG.

Film Permit
