Cerro San Luis Trailhead: To access Cerro San Luis Natural Reserve trailhead turn right onto Fernandez Road just before the southbound 101 Marsh Street on-ramp.

“M” INFORMATION

• The “M” located on the side of Cerro San Luis does not stand for Madonna, as many believe. The “M” was actually put there by Mission Prep High School graduating class of 1966. This high school monogram was very difficult to construct due to a very steep grade. A member of the graduating class designed a pulley system involving a tree and a jeep on the plateau to pull five gallons of concrete up at a time. The trail, up to the “M”, and painting are maintained by the Mission Prep freshman class each year. The “M” is traditionally painted white, but there has been talk of painting it blue and gold. The “M” provides a sense of pride for mission graduates and students and is one of the better-known landmarks in town.
