INFORMATION
-
The M located on the side of Cerro San Luis does not stand for
Madonna, as many believe. The M was actually put there by Mission
Prep High School graduating class of 1966. This high school monogram
was very difficult to construct due to a very steep grade.
A member of the graduating class designed a pulley system involving
a tree and a jeep on the plateau to pull five gallons of concrete up
at a time. The trail, up to the M, and painting are
maintained by the Mission Prep freshman class each year. The M is
traditionally painted white, but there has been talk of painting it
blue and gold. The M provides a sense of pride for mission
graduates and students and is one of the better-known landmarks in
town.
