The City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its 37th Annual Triathlon on Sunday, July 24, 2016. With over a 1000 participants, it is the largest pool triathlon in the nation. We ask for public support on race day in the following area(s) where it may be impacted:
BIKE COURSE The bike course begins at the SLO Swim Center; participants travel east on Southwood Drive through the intersections of Laurel Lane, Westwood, Fernwood, Kentwood, as well as Johnson Avenue, Tanglewood and out to Orcutt Road. Please use extreme caution when driving in these areas. For safety reasons, Southwood Drive will be closed to non-race traffic from 6:00am to 6:00pm. The intersection of Laurel Lane and Southwood Drive will be closed to thru traffic from 6:30am to 4:30pm. Only residents will be given access. Orcutt Road will be PARTIALLY CLOSED from 6:30am to 4:30pm. Only residents will be given access to Orcutt Road, all other traffic will be re-routed. If the use of Orcutt Road is necessary, please use caution and follow the California Highway Patrol and SLOPD directions. Make sure to turn on your headlights and drive slowly (25 mph). Orcutt Road will be opened to all traffic at 4:30pm (or sooner if all participants finish earlier).
RUN COURSE The run course begins at the SLO Swim Center and extends to the Railroad Recreational Trail. The run course includes Santa Barbara Street, Leff Street, Buchon Street, Johnson Avenue, Bishop Street, Augusta and San Carlos. Participants will be traveling past your property; we ask that you inform us of any potential danger, such as loose gravel or sprinklers making the street wet or slippery. Please refer any concerns or questions to Rich Ogden at the Parks and Recreation Department, 805-781-7305.
Due to the SLO Triathlon on Sunday, July 24th, SLO Transit will operate a SPECIAL ROUT 1 and a modified ROUT 3. View more information here.
