Valuable Feedback for Economic Development Strategic Plan
The first in a series of public workshops designed to inform the
City's five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan was held on
March 29th. Approximately 40 community members attended,
representing local businesses, Cal Poly, non-profits and
Participants identified existing trends that could be
capitalized on to create jobs and discussed the challenges of
doing business in the City.
The workshop highlighted opportunities for job creation, such as
access to fiber optic internet, Cal Poly innovation and talent,
quality of life, growing technology companies, a vibrant
downtown, and an engaged community.
Top challenges named were uncertainty in the City's development
review process and costs of permits in the City, lack of
shovel-ready opportunity sites, housing costs, and airport and
rail system limitations.
Strategies proposed by workshop participants to capitalize on
opportunities and address challenges will be a significant
source of inspiration for the Strategic Plan.
