PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS:
103-11; Review Certified Local Government (CLG) application; City of
San Luis Obispo, applicant. (Phil
Recommend the City Council approve the application and certification
agreement for the Certified Local Government program.
Moved by Fowler/Costello to recommend the City Council approve
the application and certification agreement for the Certified Local
Government (CLG) program (7:0).
CHC 134-11; Review design and location of new signs to identify Old
Town, Chinatown, and Downtown Historic Districts; City of San Luis
Obispo, applicant. (Phil Dunsmore)
Continue the item with specific direction on design changes and
comments on sign locations as appropriate.
Moved by Fowler/Pavlik to ask staff to complete additional
community outreach, research potential sign locations, incorporate
CHC design comments, and continue the item to the regular January
CHC hearing (7:0).
CHC 48-11; Continued review of updates to the Historic Resources
Inventory; City of San Luis Obispo, applicant.
Receive public and committee testimony, discuss initial survey
results, and continue the item to the regular December CHC hearing.
The CHC did not take a formal action on item 3.
COMMENT AND DISCUSSION:
Forecast – Staff discussed the potential agenda for the December
hearing and provided an update on the wall reconstruction at the La
Loma Adobe noting that staff may be returning to discuss the adobe
in the near future to determine how the new walls should be
weatherproofed. Staff also provided a copy of the first Historic
newsletter that is currently being mailed to residents within
historic districts and historic properties.
Commissioner Kalkowski discussed efforts in the East Railroad
neighborhood and suggested the use of a neighborhood character
designation to preserve the architectural character of the area. He
also discussed the potential of the Sunset Drive-in to be placed on
the City's Master List of historic resources. Commissioner Costello
and Fowler noted that they would not be available for the December
