Cultural Heritage Committee Meeting Update

August 22, 2011                          Monday                                           5:30 p.m.

ROLL CALL:      Committee Members Hemalata Dandekar, John Fowler, Jaime Hill, Buzz Kalkowski, Bob Pavlik, Vice-Chair Enrica Costello, and Chair Jeff Oliveira                                           

                            All committee members were present.

STAFF:               Phil Dunsmore, Senior Planner

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment

MINUTES:  Minutes of July 25, 2011, were approved as amended.

PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS:

1.     City-Wide.  CHC 48-11; Continued study session to review a program for updating the City's Historic Resource Inventory; City of San Luis Obispo – Community Development Dept., applicant.  (Phil Dunsmore)

RECOMMENDATION:  Receive public and Committee testimony, determine property survey methods, and continue the item to the regular September CHC hearing.

ACTION:  Moved by Pavlik/Kalkowski to adjust boundary of focused inventory area and continue study session to regular September hearing (7:0).

COMMENT AND DISCUSSION:

2.    Staff

a. Agenda Forecast – Staff provided an agenda forecast for the September hearing and provided an update on the Sunny Acres building.

b.  Discussion regarding water and sewer rate impacts to landscaping on historic properties (Carrie Mattingly, Utilities Director)
Paul Rys provided testimony to the CHC, Dave Hix of the Utilities Department, provided a summary to the CHC and answered questions.  The CHC did not take an action on the matter but suggested Mr. Rys work with the Planning Commission and City Council to find solutions.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
