Cultural Heritage Committee Meeting Update

April 22, 2013                            Monday                                           5:30 p.m.

OATH OF OFFICE:     Swearing in re-appointed Committee Members Patti Taylor and Jaime Hill and new Committee Members Sandy Baer and Victoria Wood

ROLL CALL:   Committee Members Sandy Baer, Thom Brajkovich, Hemalata Dandekar, Jaime Hill, Patti Taylor, Victoria Wood, Vice-Chair Bob Pavlik, and (Chair – Position Vacant)

STAFF:             Phil Dunsmore, Senior Planner

ELECTION:      Election of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson                        The Committee voted to elect Bob Pavlik as Chair and Hemalata Dandekar as Vice- Chair.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA:  Agenda was accepted as proposed.

MINUTES:  Minutes of March 25, 2013, were approved as written.


1.    1144 Buchon Street.  CHC 106-12; Request to add a Contributing property to the Master List of Historic Resources; R-2-H zone; Chris Hoover, applicant.  (Brian Leveille)

        RECOMMENDATION:  Review additional information provided in the Bertrando Report Addendum and make a recommendation to Council based on one of the action alternatives.

         ACTION:  Moved by Baer/Taylor to continue to a date uncertain (7:0).

2.     City-Wide.  CHC 41-13; Review of appropriate review authority for development projects on historic properties; City of San Luis Obispo – Community Development Dept., applicant.  (Phil Dunsmore)

RECOMMENDATION:  Recommend the Cultural Heritage Committee endorse the attached review matrix.

ACTION:  Moved by Hill/Baer to approve the review authority matrix with changes as discussed. (7:0).


3.     Staff

a.  Agenda Forecast – Staff noted upcoming hearing dates and asked the CHC if they would be interested in moving the scheduled May 28th hearing date to June 10th.  CHC voted unanimously to move the hearing date to Monday, June 10th, at 5:30 p.m.

b.  Cultural Heritage Committee By-laws Review

A motion was made by Taylor/Wood to approve by-laws as written with no changes (7:0).

4.     Committee

A request was made by Committee Member Hill asking staff to communicate with Public Works to re-evaluate salt finish for sidewalks in the Downtown Historic District.
