Advisory Bodies

Most advisory bodies meet regularly at established times. Some advisory bodies are defined as technical or special-purpose. They may meet regularly or only when projects or proposals require their attention. Technical and/or Special Purpose Advisory Bodies are denoted with an asterisk (*).


Architectural
Review Commission

Establishes architectural guidelines and rules on the design of new construction and major commercial remodeling projects. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room at City Hall. Details

Bicycle Advisory Committee

The Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) provides oversight and policy direction on matters related to bicycle transportation in San Luis Obispo and its relationship to bicycling outside the city. Details

Board of Appeals - Construction and Handicapped

The Board of Appeals meets as necessary in order to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretations of various technical codes. In addition, the Board of Appeals may meet as the Appeals Board for Disabled Access for the purpose of considering appeals to the standards contained in the California Building Standards Code regarding accommodations for persons with physical disabilities. Cultural Heritage Committee

Oversees a broad range of educational and technical assistance programs aimed at preserving historical and cultural resources. The committee maintains the master list of historic buildings, advises people interested in restoring historic structures, reviews planned demolition of historical resources, and comments on other actions that affect historic buildings, sites, and districts. The program goal is preservation of historic and architecturally significant buildings and locations. The Cultural Heritage Committee has seven members appointed by the City Council. Details

Housing Authority

Directly responsible for all operations of the Housing Authority. It approves applications for federal and state housing programs, approves the authority’s annual operating budgets, and assists the City in addressing housing needs of low and medium income households. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at noon at 487 Leff Street. Details

Human Relations Commission

Advises the City Council on matters concerning social problems affecting the residents of the City, assist in tenant/landlord problems, and reviews and recommends grants-in-aid to assist groups which provide human services programs. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, 990 Palm Street. Details

Jack House Committee

The Jack House Committee assists the Council and Parks and Recreation Department in the administration and restoration of the historic Jack Residence at 536 Marsh Street. The Committee makes recommendations for basic rules and regulations that will allow for the greatest possible public use and enjoyment of the house and grounds, while protecting and preserving the history and integrity of this cultural and recreational facility. Advisory Committee on Joint Use of Recreational Facilities

The Advisory Committee on Joint Use of Recreational Facilities advises Council and the San Luis Coastal Unified School District Board regarding policies for operations of facilities and development of new facilities in Sinsheimer Park. Details

Mass Transportation Committee

Assists with an ongoing program of public transit in the City and Cal Poly. As requested, the Committee provides advisory recommendations and input to the Council regarding routes, schedules, capital projects, fares, marketing and additional services. Details

Parks and Recreation Commission

Advises the Council on parks development and recreation programs and given general guidance to the Parks & Recreation Department. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 990 Palm Street. Details

Personnel Board

Provides a forum for airing both sides of unresolved employee grievances and disciplinary matters with its recommendations forwarded to the City Council. Meetings are held at City Hall when personnel issues arise. Details

Planning Commission

Makes final decisions as well as recommendations to the City Council on most types of development applications. Also advises the Council on long-range planning. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall. Details

Promotional Coordinating Committee

Prepares and recommends long-range and annual city promotional and advertising programs. Advises Council on city grants to local cultural groups. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room at City Hall. Details

Tourism Business Improvement District Board

The purpose of this Board is to promote tourism marketing in the City of San Luis Obispo. This Board will be comprised of five (5) members. All members must be operators of hotels within the district, or employed by the operator of such hotel.

Tree Committee

An appointed five (5) member citizen advisory body that serves the community and the City Council. Any decisions made by the Tree Committee can be appealed to the City Council within ten (10) days. The City Arborist can assist you with this process if necessary. Details
