The Administration Department
is headed by the City Admi nistrative Officer, who reports to the City Council. The department consists of seven people: the
City Administrative Officer (CAO), Assistant City Administrative Officer
(ACAO), Assistant to the City
Administrative Officer, Economic Development Manager, Natural Resources
Manager, Biologist, and two assistants.
The department is
responsible for providing information and recommendations to the Council, implementing
council policies, and guiding the day-to-day management of the City. The CAO provides
direct supervision to all of the City Department Heads, except its City Attorney, a
separate council appointed official. Administration also staffs the Promotional
Coordinating Committee which recommends grants to organizations promoting cultural,
economic or recreational services within the City and helps develop the Citys
tourism attraction program.
The department is responsible for coordinating the
Citys economic development efforts and assuring the identification and protection of
open space and natural and biological resources in and around the City. In addition, the
department is involved in a wide variety of special projects such as managing the
Citys cable television franchise, serving as liaison to the Downtown Association,
enforcing the Citys anti-smoking ordinance and, along with Cal Poly University and
the Foundation for the Performing Arts, management of the new Performing Arts Center.
The City Administrators office likes to know how things are going. We have a
How are we doing? survey which can be sent to our
office. All letters of commendation from citizens are displayed on the People
Serving People board at City Hall, and published in an internal newsletter.
