Youth Services Celebrates Lights On After School
October 16 was the annual nationwide Lights On Afterschool event celebrating afterschool programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn and helping working families. This event is celebrated by more than 1 million individuals at over more than 8,000 events nationwide.
For the fifth year in a row, the City’s Sun ‘N Fun and Club STAR programs joined the celebration. Staff and participants dressed in black and participated in a special fun-filled day. Activities included STEM based catapult building, health-conscious trail mix making, active Balloon Stomp game and mind-bending Mystery Bag Challenges (Each group given a bag with a few items and a challenge, such as “You are on an adventure in the arctic and get stuck. Using the supplies included, how do you get to safety?”). The day was a favorite for staff and participants alike!
